Saturday, Feb 14
Saturday, South Mountain ride overview, click on image for detailed version.

The road to the top is shown in purple. We'll meet in the main parking lot at 8:30 am. The first ride will be from the Buena Vista parking lot on the loop shown in blue. People can feel free to turn around at any point they like. The trail is fairly moderate most of the time (but there are some difficult features). From the Buena Vista Parking lot, people can choose to ride along the trail shown in green which starts along National trail (shown in yellow) heading west and then turn right onto to Holbert trail. The top part of Holbert is fairly easy until you get to Dobbin's Lookout parking lot. Actually, the trail goes below Dobbin's Lookout, but there's a short trail up the hill from Holbert to Dobbin's Lookout. The main group will proceed to go all the way down Holbert back to the main parking lot where we will shuttle back up to Dobbin's Lookout for lunch and informal trials. After lunch, people can choose to ride down Holbert again. Others could choose to ride west along National for a more moderate, but awesome ride.
- Morning muni ride at
South Mountain. We'll meet in the main parking lot at 8:30 am which
is located at the end of S. Central Ave in Phoenix. When you enter the park,
take the first left after you pass the gate and then park in the first
parking lot to the left again. I've indicated where this is on the map
with the red X shown below.
- We'll be shuttling to the Buena Vista parking lot at the top of South Mountain. From there, we ride east along National trail and ride back along Mormon Loop trail to meet up with National trail again and back to Buena Vista parking lot. Next people have the option of heading directly to Dobbin's Lookout parking lot (also top of Holbert trail) for lunch, or riding down Holbert trail once and shuttling back to the top of the mountain. Holbert trail is about 2 miles long with a 1000 foot drop. Here's an overview of the trails (from a hiking perspective): South Mountain Trail Guide.
- Lunch (pack your own) and trials at the Holbert parking lot, top of South Mountain, around 1:00 pm. Due to the relatively small number of people who expressed interest in trials, there will be no formal trials competition this year. Instead, everybody is invited have fun making trials lines on the natural rock features where we'll be having lunch.
- 2:30 pm, Optional second ride down Holbert (yes, this trail is that good!).
- Approximately three hour break before dinner.
- 7:30 pm dinner at Thom's house (club member and sole sponsor).
Although we mentioned a $20 registration fee on the sign-up form,
there will be no fee collected since dinner generously is being
provided by our event and club sponsor
AutoShoppingService.com.

Accommodations
There are lots of accommodation options in the Phoenix area. If you are really into camping, then camping in the White Tank Mountain Regional Park is an option. If you want to crash at somebody's place, then contact one of the organizers and we'll ask around.
